Why Grandfather Clocks?

First off, I didn’t know there were ‘grandmother’ clocks. ‘GrandMOTHER’. Evidently, these things are just like grandfather clocks, only a bit smaller. It seems to me if you’re going to take off of work and go on holiday, you might as well go first class. That means ‘grandfather clocks’ clocks. If you’re going to have one, that is.

Now, why buy a fake ‘old’ grandfather clock, when you can mix in modern sensibilities and get a ‘two for one’ grandfather clock, plus, what? I thermometer? No. A mirror? Too easy. How about a grandfather clock PLUS a fountain. That’ right folks, a ‘fountain’ inside the grandfather clock. You can see a photo of it at this link, or this link.

I think I’d put it on the same wall as the TV, for two reasons. One, the water makes a nice sound for when the tube is off. Two, the chime sound would remind me that it’s time to turn on my favorite show, or that I’ve watched enough, or that if I’m cooking something, better check it on the half hour.

On the other hand, call me stubborn, but if it’s not a grandfather clock that needs to be driven by a chain, it’s just not worthy of that title. I don’t mind it being new, but just make sure you have to use a chain with weights. Like the difference between a real person and a battery driven robot.
