Just So

I am testing today in my martial arts class. I feel like I don’t know anything. It’s a long block test, and I’m testing all alone. I have to escape from headlock standing up/lying down, give a figure-four armbar/kimura, escape from being trapped against a wall, escape from being sat on, and the list just keeps going on and on and on.

I think the only thing I can remember for sure is this: low round kick, high round kick, turn-around-side-kick,  advance side kick, advance turn-around-side-kick. Bow!

I am so going to get palpitations. I’m supposed to remember terms like ‘marriage of gravity’, telegraphing, and consistency. I’m a chemist. I don’t think my definition of consistency applies. Marriage of gravity is a kenpo term. What’s marriage of gravity? What’s kenpo?

Marriage of Gravity- This principle is nothing more than utilizing the acceleration of gravity for your own benefit. If you can strike at a down angle, relax and let gravity take your strike down, this will give you more penetration with less effort. I’m supposed to know a little bit of history about arnis, which is Filipino Stick and Knife fighting system of self-defense. I don’t know arnis, but my grandfather is very good at it. Filipinos beat Magellan with this fighting technique.

Okay, I’m going to go and clean up jello mess on my floor now. That usually happens in my household when my kids are bored.
