I’m Engrossed

It has been a while when I could sit and devour a book. Saturday night was quite chilly. It’s a perfect time to huddle in my bedroom couch with my comforter, grabbed The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly and travel to England in the 1900s. All I can say is I am glad I am not a poor mother in Whitechappel, England around that time. The conditions are simply horrible. Actually, it’s beyond horrible, it’s hopeless. Ms. Donnelly paints such portrait of hopelessness, and abject poverty.

I am glad I am not a woman doctor trying to set up a practice around that time. It makes for an entertaining epical [is this even a word derive from 'epics'?] tale of love between a disinherited woman doctor and one of the richest bad guy, who has a heart of gold. I still wouldn’t want to live during that era. Not even if I am Princess Margaret. I love my TV shows, and 1907 is just horribly devoid of television and blogging. Of this 725 pages book, I’ve read from page 83 to 460 in 4 hours times. I savor every word. I’m reading a tad slower than my normal breakneck speed.

While I’m lost in India and Sid’s love story, the laundry is piling high, the floor need sweeping. Throw in a bad guy, back-stabbing friends, and murdering fiancĂ© and I am set not to notice anything wrong with the state of my house. Have you observe what five children can do to a house on a weekend especially when they’re ages 10-8-6-3-1? If you haven’t, just think of stampeding Buffalo’s through the plains of America, or a ballroom after a drunken prom, or something like that.

I think I need some sort of system where they clean up after their mess. I could clean the house at midnight because I detest waking up to a disorganized house, but on a weekend, I’ll probably overslept and wake up to a messy house again. I love my children, and they need to clean up after themselves more. There isn’t going to be a fleet of housemaids like in my childhood home. There isn’t’ going to be a nanny making sure their clothes are ready and clean. There’s just me.

Oy, I’m fresh out of ideas right now. However, I have faith in my kids. They’re good eggs. Is that the phrase? Good eggs?

I can certainly understand that coz I was still in highschool when my cousins are way younger and I saw how they can turn the house upside down but good thing was that there were maids to clean the mess after. That’s why I am so amazed how you manage to do all those stuff. You are indeed a super mom!

    With best wishes,

Jennifer (and others), what’s even more amazing about Shoshana is that she often reads SEVERAL books at once…one in the car, one at the nursing spot, several books stashed in various rooms around the house…she’s some kind of mutant book reader! I guess that’s why I think she’s so great!

  12. [...] I swear it steals time away from my kids. I would be stuck with an extremely good book, like Jennifer Donelly’s Rose series. It’s simply awesome. These books would simply become anyone’s number one [...]
